Officers from a Santa Barbara Police Department specialized unit conducted a premise check at a convenience store late Thursday night and detained two people associated with a criminal street gang, according to a release from Santa Barbara Police.

Officers informed Gabriel Alejandro Fonseca of their intent to conduct a parole compliance check.

Fonseca fled and was later taken to the ground after refusing all commands. One officer found a loaded handgun in his waistband.

After a visual search of the vehicle associated with Fonseca and Felipe Alejandro Flores, officers found a loaded handgun wedged between the driver seat and center console.

Both Fonseca and Flores were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on multiple felony charges stemming from weapons violations and violating parole.
