A petition against a proposed methadone clinic in Vandenberg Village was delivered to Santa Barbara County Supervisor Joan Hartmann during her office hours in the village Friday.

Many residents, evidenced by the 1,500 signatures Hartmann says were on the petition, have been voicing concerns over recent months regarding Aegis' plans to open an opioid addiction treatment center along Constellation Road in the village.

Aegis, which has outpatient treatment centers in Atascadero and Santa Maria, said last week they chose to withdraw the application in the village after an Oct. 23 meeting attended by more than 100 people, but residents say the center has not done that yet.

The business reportedly signed the lease for the Vandenberg Village location prior to the permit's approval.

Aegis previously told KSBY they are working closely with Santa Barbara County to find a different facility to assist their 85-plus patients in the Lompoc area.

Residents tell KSBY News that until the application is withdrawn, they will keep up their yellow yard signs opposing the facility.
