Community members in Santa Maria gathered Sunday to help support loved ones on their spiritual journeys.
A Dia de Los Muertos Festival took place at the Veterans' Memorial Community Park where families celebrated the lives of loved ones who have passed away.
The tradition translates to "Day of the Dead" and is widely celebrated in Mexican culture as a way to pray and remember those we have lost.
Rather than be sad, family and friends instead rejoice and honor people's lives.
People were encouraged to create multicolored altars to honor someone who has died.
The free event offered live entertainment, colorful altar displays, activities for kids and food and craft vendors.
