ORIGINAL STORY (2:37 p.m.) - The Santa Maria Police Department said it is investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say the Santa Maria Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a man waving a gun in front of numerous community members at Boomers Miniature Golf Arcade, located on the 2200 block of Preisker Lane, at around 12:57 p.m.

At the time of the call, police say the business was occupied and employees ushered people inside, where they secured the doors and sheltered in place.

Santa Maria police officers arrived on scene and saw the suspect near the intersection of North Broadway and Preisker Lane holding a handgun, said officials.

One Santa Maria police officer shot the suspect, after which police officers rapidly engaged in lifesaving efforts to treat the suspect for his injuries, according to the police department.

The suspect was transported by medical personnel to a nearby hospital, where his condition is unknown.
