Santa Maria shooting suspect pleads not guilty

The man charged in connection with a shooting in Santa Maria earlier this month has pleaded not guilty.

Alberto Fidel Reyes,38, entered the plea Friday in Santa Maria Superior Court.

He's charged with attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Reyes has also denied the five enhancements, which include being a habitual criminal, court records show.

He was arrested Dec. 4, two days after the shooting on the 600 block of North Palisades Drive that left a man injured after being shot multiple times.

Reyes is due back in court Dec. 16.

At last check, the victim was said to be in "stable" condition.
