A new temporary site to house the homeless is now open in Paso Robles.
Paso Robles Fire Battalion Chief Randy Harris says the location on North River Road, north of the 24th Street Bridge, will house 20 people at first, then expand based on need.
Campers are being issued individual tents and as of Wednesday morning, two tents had been set up.
Some showers and several bathrooms are reportedly at the site, which will be staffed at night by a security company.
The police and fire departments will check on the site during the day.
The location will serve as a safe parking site, as well.
Paso Cares and ECHO are also teaming up to provide food and other services for campers.
The opening of the homeless camp comes after those living in the Salinas Riverbed were given orders to move so crews can remove dry vegetation that could be a fire hazard.
