Wildlife officials are gathering data from mountain lions hit along Highway 1 near Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife tells KSBY News three mountain lions have been hit on the highway in the last two months between Timber Lane near Vandenberg Middle School and Constellation Road in Vandenberg Village.

The latest happened Tuesday morning south of Lucia Canyon Road.

Wildlife officers from Vandenberg Air Force Base have been collecting the carcasses so fish and wildlife biologists can then gather data from them.

While mountain lion sightings in the area are not that uncommon, recent bear sightings have also been a topic of conversation for many.

At least two bears sightings were captured on video in the area of Galaxy Way earlier this month.

Fish and Wildlife says there have been no new reports and it's believed the bear likely made its way back into the woods.

They add that it is uncommon for bears to be in Vandenberg Village as most are usually east of Highway 101.
