In collaboration with local departments, the City of Paso Robles has opened a new Paso Robles Safety Training Center.
The new center, which opened on Friday, August 14, will support training, education, and collaboration among public safety professionals.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening was followed by a live-fire response demonstration. Paso Robles fire personnel ignited a fire on the second floor of the center before activating a fire engine and crew.
Emergency responders from the Paso Robles fire and police departments watched on alongside fire agencies from throughout San Luis Obispo County.
“You're going to see that confidence in our people that are responding,” said Paso Robles Fire Chief Jonathan Stornetta. “They're going to have the training that they weren't able to get before. With our training with our allied agencies, all the fire departments respond together because no one fire department can respond to any large emergency in this county without the others.”
During the ribbon-cutting, Stornetta presented a plaque to Congressman Jimmy Panetta, who secured $500,000 in Federal Community Project Funding required for the project.
The ribbon was officially cut by Congressman Panetta and Paso Robles Mayor Pro Tem Gregory using “jaws of life” portable cutters.
The new Public Safety Training Center is located at 2924 Union Road in Paso Robles.
