Heavy school traffic is expected later this month as Cal Poly, Cuesta and San Luis Coastal Unified School District students all return to school within eight days of each other.
While Cal Poly students usually return in September, the change to the semester system shortened summers for students and staff this year.
Cuesta College classes start on Monday, Aug. 17, with Cal Poly move-in and Week of Welcome starting the day after.
San Luis Coastal Unified School District classes will begin on Thursday, Aug. 20 and Cal Poly classes are set to begin the following Monday.
The City of San Luis Obispo is issuing a safety enhancement zone from Tuesday, Aug. 18 to Monday, Aug. 31. Fines for unruly gatherings, open container and public urination will be doubled during this period.
The city encourages planning for extra travel time and extra awareness of crosswalks and bus stops.
