The San Luis Coastal Unified School District hosted a collaborative back-to-school culinary workshop on August 17 to support campus chefs and cooks in preparing for the new year.

During the program, staff members met at the San Luis Obispo High School kitchen to learn new culinary techniques and practice recipes that will hit the menus at school campuses this year.

Staff from SLCUSD, Paso, Atascadero, and Lucia Mar cooked up recipes such as spicy chicken quesadillas, a salmon teriyaki bowl, and kale pesto.

“Collaborating with fellow districts is just amazing because together we are stronger, and our voices are really loud—we're changing the way school meals are for our families,” said Jessie Wesch, Director of Food Services for Paso Robles Joint Unified School District.

Event leaders also held a discussion with members about local ingredients and food sourcing.

The district says this event helped staff members from across the county network while strengthening the regional school food system for the future.
