UPDATE (5:13 p.m.) – CAL FIRE reports that forward progress of the Pouch Fire has been stopped.
Five acres is estimated to have burned, with the fire 20 percent contained.
The fire broke out off the northbound lanes of Highway 1 between the California Men’s Colony and Cal Poly.
Fire officials were advising drivers to avoid the area, as traffic on the highway was extremely backed up and fire personnel and other emergency responders were in the area.
According to CAL FIRE, two separate fires estimated at half an acre in size each were initially reported, with one of the fires near the base of a hill taking off and spreading, prompting evacuations and threatening structures.
Fire officials say structures are no longer threatened.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: Evacuations were being issued for a vegetation fire that broke out Friday and was threatening structures off Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo, according to CAL FIRE.
The fire was reported shortly before 4:15 p.m. near Stenner Creek Road.
As of about 4:45 p.m., CAL FIRE was reporting the fire to be approximately three acres in size. A CAL FIRE spokesperson said additional resources were being requested.
No other information was immediately available.
