Highway 101 through San Luis Obispo was backed up with traffic Monday afternoon due to Caltrans road work, and later, a vehicle collision.
A northbound lane of the highway was closed at the bottom of the Cuesta Grade in the early afternoon, slowing traffic south through the city and even onto side streets.
Later, according to the California Highway Patrol, a traffic collision occurred just after 3:30 p.m. along northbound Highway 101 at the Monterey Street off-ramp, blocking the #2 lane.
