The San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Health is urging residents to stay out of the ocean for at least three days following this week’s rainstorm. Heavy rainfall can cause runoff that carries high levels of bacteria, viruses, and protozoa from urban areas and the watershed into coastal waters.

Surfers, swimmers, and others are advised to avoid ocean contact during this period.
