KSBY’s Friday Night Highlights Week 10 ‘Game of the Week’ is a rivalry showdown for the Mountain League title as Righetti hosts St. Joseph.

The Knights and the Warriors enter the matchup with identical 3-0 League records.

St. Joseph’s offense has averaged over 37 points per game this season, and they’ve done most of that damage through the air behind senior quarterback Chase Artopoeus.

This is the ninth installment of the ‘Battle for the Shield.’ St. Joes has won the past three meetings against Righetti, including last year’s 40-14 victory at Jay Will Stadium.

The Knights know there’s a lot more at stake this time around with the League title on the line.

“We’re very excited for the opportunity and very blessed for the opportunity to play for the League championship,” St. Joseph head coach Pepe Villasenor said. “It’s very hard to take the emotion out of it, take the excitement out of it, and the hype out of it. We just have to execute and take care of the ball, plain and simple.”

“You know, we’re all pretty excited, the whole school and everything,” St. Joseph senior safety Justin Maldonado added. “It’s going to be an insane atmosphere on Friday with two cross-street rivals coming together and throwing in the League championship. We’re two teams that have done extremely well this year, putting all that together, it’s going to be nuts and definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The ‘Battle for the Shield’ kicks off at 7 P.M. on Friday night at Righetti High School.
