Kiely West of Santa Ynez and Max Daniels of Orcutt Academy were named Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.
West, the female athlete of the week, helped lead the Santa Ynez cross country team to a third-place finish at the Channel League Meet. West took second-place individually with a time of 18:57.74.
Daniels, the male athlete of the week, scored five first-half touchdowns last Friday night in Orcutt Academy’s 56-13 first-round playoff victory over Trona. Daniels threw for two scores, rushed for another, and returned to interceptions for touchdowns.
“I feel great,” Daniels said. “I’ve been to most of the weeks of the round table, and I just feel glad to everyone for recognizing good play.”
“I was really happy,” West said. She added, “I was not sure if I was going to get it. I didn’t really know this was going to happen, so I’m really excited.”
