After four seasons, John Ruiz has stepped down as Pioneer Valley Head Football Coach, the school district announced on Monday. It was a decision Ruiz made last week.
Ruiz took over the program in 2015, and in his four seasons at the helm, he led Pioneer Valley to an 18-24 overall record, a combined 7-10 league record, and two postseason appearances. In his first three seasons, Pioneer Valley was a member of the Los Padres League and then spent one season in the Ocean League after making a switch to the CIF-Central Section.
The Panthers took second in the Ocean League this past fall (6-5, 4-1) and qualified for the Division 2 playoffs. They were defeated by Stockdale in the first round, 45-24.
Ruiz will continue to teach special education classes on campus while the school begins its search for a new head coach.
