Oregon State parlayed three falls and four major decisions into a 37-10 victory over Cal Poly in a Pac-12 dual wrestling meet Saturday afternoon inside Mott Athletics Center.
No. 7 Amar Dhesi, No. 4 Ronnie Bresser and Colt Doyle all recorded falls as the Beavers improved to 4-6 for the season and 2-1 in Pac-12 duals. Cal Poly fell to 0-5 and 0-2.
Dhesi earned his fall in 2 minutes, 10 seconds, lifting his record to 5-1 at 285 pounds, while Bresser is 18-1 following his fall at 125 pounds in 1:10. Doyle wrapped up the dual meet with his fall in 2:38 at 174 pounds and is 12-8 for the season.
Cal Poly earned its points at 197 pounds as Tom Lane secured a 15-2 major decision and at 157 pounds via forfeit.
Lane has won eight of his last nine bouts after outscoring Jamarcus Grant with two takedowns, a pair of four-point near falls, an escape, a penalty point for stalling and riding time.
Lane is 16-8 for the year and ranked No. 17 in his weight class by Amateur Wrestling News.
At 133, Mustang Yoshito Funakoshi rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a second-period takedown and a third-period escape, but his takedown attempt in the final seconds of the bout was thwarted by Devan Turner in a 6-4 decision.
Bob Coleman (184 pounds), Grant Willits (141), Josh Reyes (149) and Aaron Olmos (165) all won by major decision for the Beavers, who now hold a 40-10 advantage in their series against the Mustangs.
Cal Poly’s final two home dual meets take place next weekend as the Mustangs host Fresno State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Center and Air Force next Sunday at 1 o’clock in Mott Athletics Center.
