The Cuesta College baseball team defeated Solano College, 12-5 and 8-2, to sweep a doubleheader on Friday in San Luis Obispo.

Game 1:

Cuesta jumped on Solano with three runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of Falcons errors. The Cougars’ Johnny Wiltfang was cruising on the bump as he started the game with 11-straight outs, but Solano got to him in the fourth scoring four runs to take a 4-3 lead.

But Cuesta responded in the sixth and seventh innings plating nine unanswered runs. First baseman Aidan Nagle capped off the explosion with a 3-run home run in the seventh to make it 12-4.

Game 2:

With a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the third inning, Cuesta batted around its lineup by scoring five runs on four hits, including three RBI doubles by Mason Grotto, Aiden Nagle, and Garrett Brown.

Solano would get two runs back in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-2, but Cuesta plated runs in the fifth and ninth innings to seal the deal.

The Cougars earned the series sweep over the Falcons by also winning the first game of the series on Thursday, 6-0.

Cuesta begins Western State-North Conference play next week with a home-and-home series with rival Allan Hancock.

Tuesday’s game in Santa Maria starts at 2:00 P.M. Thursday’s game in San Luis Obispo begins at 2:00 PM.
