The Allan Hancock College baseball team defeated Cuesta College, 2-1, in their Western State-North Conference opener on Monday afternoon at John Osborne Field.

The Bulldogs jumped in front 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when DH Evan Kling smacked a double down the right field line to score Ismael Hernandez from third base.

Kling brought in the Bulldogs’ second run of the game as well in the sixth inning with a solo home run to right center to make it 2-0. Kling finished the afternoon a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored.

Cuesta finally got on the board in the top of the eighth thanks to a solo shot from Zach Berohn.  He tucked it just inside the left field foul pole.

Berohn and Gabe Barthelmass each finished with two hits for the Cougars.

Hernandez finished off the save by getting Ryan McCarty to fly out to left field.

Trevor Garcia earned the win for Hancock as he pitched 7.2 innings, gave up just five hits, one run, and struck out six batters while walking just one.

Zach Torra took the loss for Cuesta. He pitched 6.0 innings, gave up two runs, and struck out nine batters.
