Mackenzie Kestler of Righetti and Darien Langley of St. Joseph were named athletes of the week at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table in Santa Maria.
Kestler, the female athlete of the week, pitched 10 innings this past weekend for the Warriors’ softball team at the Franklin Preseason Tournament. Kestler pitched a pair of gems, earning one win, striking out nine, and allowing just two runs. She also went 4-for-13 at the plate with a home run and three RBI.
“The tournament, we didn’t know what we were getting into because we didn’t know any of the teams we were playing,” Kestler said. “Pitching went really well and my defense had my back. I was really nice to know that I could throw a pitch and my defense was going to have my back.”
Langley, the male athlete of the week, finished first in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 4×100-meter relay this past Saturday at the Atascadero Memorial Meet. It’s a pretty impressive feat for being just a sophomore.
“We work pretty hard during the week,” Langley said. “We expect to go to CIF Finals for the 4×100. I’m trying to go to Masters, maybe State for the 100 and 200.”
