Kyra Tullos of Valley Christian Academy and Ryan Lacaste of Orcutt Academy were named athletes of the week at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table in Santa Maria.
Tullos, the female recipient, is a member of the Lions’ softball team. Last Tuesday against Shandon, Tullos hit for the cycle as VCA cruised to the victory, 25-2. Tullos finished her week of action with five hits, 11 RBI, and six runs scored.
“We had a great game against Shandon. As you guys heard, I hit for the cycle which was a really exciting moment,” Tullos said. “I actually did it in reverse order so that was kind of fun. It’s really my coaches who have taught me the skills, and also my dad, he’s helped me out with batting.”
Lacaste, the male recipient, is a member of the Spartans’ swimming team. Lacaste won four events in last week’s dual against Templeton, including the 100 butterfly (58.32), the 100 backstroke (58.31), the medley relay (27.16), and the 200 freestyle relay (23.26). As a freshman, Lacaste has a CIF Central Section qualifying time in all four of his events.
“This season has been pretty good,” Lacaste said. “I haven’t lost anything yet. I’ve been practicing a lot of [butter]fly and individual medley lately. I’m saving my backstroke for big meets, CIF, and league. “
