The Cuesta College baseball team defeated Moorpark, 7-1, in a Western State-North Conference matchup on Thursday afternoon in San Luis Obispo.
The Cougars took a 2-0 lead right away in the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Mason Grotto and Aidan Nagel. Ruben Mercado would add a sac-fly in the third to push the lead to 3-0.
Moorpark finally got on the board in the top of the seventh when James Terrazas ripped a base hit to center that scored Dominic Ruggiero to make it 3-1 in favor of the Cougars. The inning was put to rest by a sensational double play started by Mercado at short.
But Cuesta answered in its half of the seventh.
After an RBI single from Gabe Barthelmass, David Martinez laced a double down the left field line that scored Barthelmass all the way from first base to make it 5-1. The Cougars would end up scoring three runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to seal the victory.
Cuesta (19-10, 9-5) will host Santa Barbara on Saturday at 1 P.M.
