From one Fechner to another, Roger Fechner has stepped down as Morro Bay head boys basketball coach and has handed the baton to his son, Tyler.

This isn’t the first time the father-son duo has made a switch like this. Roger, who’s been the head coach the last three seasons, took over for Tyler after he left the program to pursue other opportunities.

Roger has been around Morro Bay boys basketball for 18 years, 15 as an assistant coach and three as a head coach. Roger went 45-41 in his time in charge and helped lead the Pirates to the inaugural Ocean League title this past season.

In a phone call with KSBY, Roger said he plans on sticking around the program to help Tyler out, as well as, continuing to help coach the Morro Bay baseball team.
