The library at Pioneer Valley High School was packed with friends and family on Friday afternoon as Panthers’ senior Nickolas Equihua signed his letter of intent to pursue his collegiate career in boys volleyball at Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Equihua recorded 111 kills, 22 blocks, and 12 aces for the panthers this season, and helped lead PV to a third-place finish in the Ocean League and a birth into the CIF Central Section playoffs.
“I knew I didn’t want to stay in California and I wasn’t really a southern state person so I wanted a northern state where it’s colder,” Equihua said. “They reached out to me because of my Coach and I really thank him and I thank everyone who has helped me.”
Equihua becomes the first-ever Panthers’ boys volleyball player to continue his career at a Division 3 university.
