Bishop Diego High School announced on Wednesday that Dan Peeters has stepped down as athletic director in order to accept the same position at La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks.

Peeters took over the BDHS athletic director role in 2004.

During Peeters’ tenure, the Cardinals captured 18 league championships. He was also an assistant football coach and helped lead the program to a 15-1 record in 2017 and the school’s first-ever CIF State championship.

Peeters said in a press release, “I am blessed to have been a part of the transformative faith community of Bishop Diego since coming onboard in 1999. I am grateful for the many wonderful experiences I have had and am truly blessed to have worked alongside amazing people who have taught me so much.”

In the interim, assistant athletic director Mike Cano has been named acting athletic director.
