The Five Cities 14U youth baseball team defeated South Utah, 8-1, in their first game of the Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest Regional tournament Monday night at Soto Sports Complex in Arroyo Grande.

The defending World Series champions were excited to get a win in front of their home fans to open up tournament play.

“You know, it’s very important to come out and set the tone and come out and get game one under our belt, just move forward and set that tone to create that pace for us,” head coach Michael Afzali said. “You know, we let these people know that we’re the number one team, and we’re here to win the tournament, and go back-to-back to win the World Series again.”

Five Cities will take on South Reno, Nevada Tuesday at noon in the winner’s bracket.

The 10-team tournament wraps up on Saturday with the championship game to be held at Cal Poly’s Baggett Stadium.
