The St. Joseph boys basketball team outscored El Camino Real 25-9 in the third quarter, but a late rally by the Conquistadors proved to be the difference as the Knights' season came to an end on Thursday night, 71-68.
Trailing by 12 at the half, St. Joseph opened the third quarter on fire, especially from downtown. Tim Noe knocked down a three, followed by Samuel Bazunga trying and connecting from deep. Then, on the break, Bazunga went back to what he does best - rocking the rim with a ferocious slam.
In the fourth, Angel Ortiz found Jincho Rivera slashing to the bucket for two, plus the foul. Knights extended their lead to 58-51.
Conquistadors answered with a 10-0 run of their own, but Steven Vasquez tied the game with a deep three to make it 61-61.
However, Rameon Witt knocked down a corner three later in the fourth, putting his squad up four.
With the Knights trailing by three, St. Joseph had a chance to tie it in the final seconds but Rivera's three-point attempt clanked off the bank iron.
