Sources confirmed with KSBY Wednesday that former Cal Poly head football coach Tim Walsh has been hired as the next head coach at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Orange County.

Walsh parted ways with the Mustangs at the end of November after 11 seasons with the program. He compiled a 59-66 overall record at Cal Poly, and finished 3-8 this past fall - ninth place in the Big Sky Conference.

Walsh takes over for Brent Vieselmeyer who led Santa Margarita to a 3-8 overall record last season, but an 0-5 finish in the high-profile Trinity League which features California powerhouses Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.
