Joey Ruddell and Jessa Maurer signed their National Letters of Intent Tuesday afternoon inside the Morro Bay High School gymnasium.

Ruddell will be taking the leap in his track & field career by joining the University of Idaho. Ruddell is one of the state's best high jumpers, clearing California's second best mark last season at 6'-10". It was a personal record. Ruddell says he's excited to be a Vandal.

"When I went and visited, I just felt at home," Ruddell said. "It was more like a family I guess you could say. It was just cool to have everyone I care about here."

Maurer signed to stay in the pool with the Long Beach State University women's water polo team. Maurer helped lead the Pirates to a third place finish in the Ocean League this past fall, and can't wait to take her game to the next level.

"You know, I know there's going to be little girls at the games who are watching me play now saying, 'I want to do that when I'm older,'" Maurer said. "It's a cool moment that I look back on, and see these girls and my love for water polo forming by watching these girls play. Now, I get to be one of those girls and it's really cool."
