Weekend rain still looks likely

After a week of very cold overnight lows driven by clear skies, we’ll finally see some clouds for the weekend and along with them the probability of rainfall.

There will be some improvement on temps Friday with increasing clouds, and warmer overnight lows. This will be due to an approaching low pressure system poised to deliver rain to the area primarily on Saturday.

Saturday’s storm

The south winds are the key to the upcoming system. Currently the air is bone dry so the next system will have to prime the area with moisture. Models appear to be picking up on this today with a continued reduction of storm estimated rainfall to the .25-1″ range, though I think a few spots could get near 1.5″.

Rain potential for weekend storm from EURO model

The storm system arrives Saturday and looks to linger into early Sunday before moving off. South winds 15-30mph will peak Saturday with the low’s arrival.

Storm potential impacts

Monday and Tuesday look quiet but models are indicating a mid-week system next week could be even stronger than the weekend storm with 1″+ potential.
