Classic car enthusiasts filled downtown Atascadero Friday evening for the 33rd Annual Hot El Camino Cruise Nite, kicking off the city's annual Cruisin' Weekend celebration.
Around 200 cars cruised down El Camino Real, showcasing everything from vintage classics to exotic vehicles. The event is one of the largest annual gatherings in San Luis Obispo County.
"We draw people from all over," said Terrie Banish, City of Atascadero Director of Community Services and Promotions. "Attendance-wise, it's one of our largest events that we have right next to our Tamale Festival and our Winter Wonderland event."
The cruise night has become a beloved tradition for many locals, including Keith Nichols, who has attended for the past 15 years.
"Well, I think this is a great event. It really brings a community together. We meet new people every time we come here," Nichols said.
The weekend festivities continue Saturday with the 35th Annual Mid-State Cruizers Car Show at Atascadero Lake Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can get an up-close look at a variety of antique vehicles.
Saturday evening brings the 10th Annual Dancing in the Streets to downtown, featuring several bands performing around Sunken Gardens starting at 5 p.m.
Atascadero Police Chief Dan Suttles encourages attendees to enjoy the festivities safely.
"We're out here to have a good time. I encourage everybody to have a good time, but be safe," Chief Suttles said.
