A Lompoc dental supply business is switching its focus by providing the community with hand sanitizer.
DenMat, one of Lompoc's largest employers, has made 6,000 spray bottles of the hand sanitizer and is working with the Food and Drug Administration to possibly sell it at popular stores.
In the meantime, the hand sanitizer is being distributed around town, including to the Lompoc Police Department.
"It's a real difficult time right now for anybody to get their hands on hand sanitizer so when we heard that DenMat was stepping up in the way that they were we were really excited about it," said Cpt. Kevin Martin.
"It's trying times for everyone. We've had, as I mentioned, several hundred employees affected by this. We're shut down to just essential operations here at DenMat so we are looking forward to when this is over and we can get all of our employees back to work," said DenMat CEO Dave Casper.
The hand sanitizer bottles have been placed in all of the marked police units and at key work stations within the department.
DenMat also plans to distribute to the fire department and other medical emergency services in the area.
