Despite the cancellation of the Women’s March in Eureka making national headlines, the third Women’s March in San Luis Obispo will continue as planned on Jan. 19.
News station KRCR reported the march in Humbolt County was “canceled because organizers say participants do not represent the diversity of the area.”
Local organizers responded to the report on Sunday.
“We have seen inaccurate reports claiming that the California women’s march has been canceled,” SLO organizers stated in a Facebook post. “Please know that marches are happening in the cities across California and the United States, including the one in San Luis Obispo. We are grateful for your continuous support and look forward to another successful event that will reaffirm our commitment to building a positive and just future for all people.”
Thousands have attended previous marches and it appears similar numbers are pledging to attend the 2019 march. Organizers say the mission is to advocate for women’s rights, human rights, as well as social and environmental justice.
It will take place at Mitchell Park at 9 a.m. Saturday Jan. 19.
