(8:14 a.m.) – An underage driver is in juvenile hall Monday morning after hitting a power pole in Santa Maria the night before and taking off.

Santa Maria police say the boy hit a utility pole on the 1800 block of Betteravia Rd. at about 10 p.m. Sunday.

The driver took off after the collision but police say he later returned to the scene with injuries from the crash. Due to his age, his name will not be released.

Betteravia Rd. was shut down after the crash and remains closed Monday morning as crews work to install a new power pole.
