UPDATE (3:45 p.m.) – The City of Santa Maria says Betteravia Rd. has reopened to traffic after crews finished repairs on a utility pole that was struck by a vehicle Sunday night.
(8:14 a.m.) – An underage driver is in juvenile hall Monday morning after hitting a power pole in Santa Maria the night before and taking off.
Santa Maria police say the boy hit a utility pole on the 1800 block of Betteravia Rd. at about 10 p.m. Sunday.
The driver took off after the collision but police say he later returned to the scene with injuries from the crash. Due to his age, his name will not be released.
Betteravia Rd. was shut down after the crash and remains closed Monday morning as crews work to install a new power pole.

City officials said on Twitter that early reports indicated the pole had six transformers on it and lines were down.
Betteravia Rd. is closed from Mahoney Rd. to Black Rd. as crews work to clear the scene.
According to the PG&E outage map, the incident did not cause a power outage.
