Sprouts Farmers Market is recalling both conventional and organic 16 oz bags of frozen cut leaf spinach. The produce was distributed to multiple states, with California being one of them.
The frozen spinach has been found to be potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly individuals and others who might be experiencing weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pains, and diarrhea. However, a Listeria infection can induce miscarriage and stillbirths among pregnant women.
