San Luis Obispo police are on the scene of a crash at Los Osos Valley Road and Calle Joaquin, where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 6:40 a.m.

Police said a woman was crossing LOVR near or in the crosswalk when she was hit by an SUV.

The female driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

According to City of SLO Police Department, when first responders first arrived, they found an unconscious and unresponsive 60-year-old female lying in the roadway. First Responders began providing medical assistance to the injured female and transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The deceased's name is not being released until next of kin is notified.

Police said it’s unclear who was at fault.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.

San Luis Obispo police posted to Facebook asking drivers to avoid the intersection of LOVR and Calle Joaquin for the next couple of hours as officers complete their investigation of the collision. The closure is expected to cause traffic delays and detours during the morning commute.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact Officer Luca Benedetti at (805) 594-8060 reference SLOPD case 191204010.
