It was the end of an era Sunday in Santa Maria.
The Sears store at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall opened its doors for the very last time.
The store was already mostly empty after recent blowout sales.
Some loyal shoppers said they are sad to see the department store close for good.
"Sears was a place that you could just go get anything you needed. My family bought tons of appliances from Sears, Kenmores - we still have one - microwaves, clothing, you name it, lawn care, just everything you need for your home," said Brenda Hascall, a local shopper.
The Kmart in Atascadero also shut down Sunday evening.
The closures are part of nearly 100 store closures nationwide announced in November by Transformco which owns Sears and Kmart
