KSBY’s Friday Night Highlights Week 6 ‘Game of the Week’ features a Mountain League opener between Arroyo Grande and St. Joseph.

The Knights went 4-2 in non-league action and wrapped things up with a tough loss at Lompoc last Friday night, 24-21.

St. Joseph is ready to get back on the field, and they’ll do it at home where they haven’t lost a game all year.

The Knights’ offense is averaging over 34 points per game this season, but they know in order to beat Arroyo Grande, it’s the defense that’ll have to slow down the Eagles’ tough rushing attack.

“Taking care of the football,” St. Joseph head coach Pepe Villasenor said adamantly. “They’re ground and pound, and they’re very elite up front. We need to sustain drives on offense and hopefully get some takeaways.”

“Yeah, it’s definitely important. It’s going to be 1-0 for whoever is able to win tomorrow and hopefully that’s us,” St. Joseph senior quarterback Chase Artopoeus added. “If we are able to win it, it gives us a good chance going on through the season playing against some of the other teams in our league. It’s a tough league so obviously you can’t just think, if we win one game we’re going to win the whole league. You know, hopefully it can give us some momentum going forward.”

The Knights and the Eagles will kickoff on Friday night at St. Joseph High School. Start time is 7 P.M.
