Kylie Yanez of Lompoc and Tim Trenkle of Valley Christian Academy were named athletes of the week at the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table in Santa Maria.
Yanez, the female athlete of the week, won three events in a track & field dual meet against Santa Maria last Wednesday. Yanez captured the title in the 100-meter hurdles (16.26), 400-meter dash (1:04.86), and 4×100-meter relay (52.47).
Trenkle, the male athlete of the week, pitched a perfect game against Maricopa last Tuesday. Trenkle faced just 15 batters and struck out 10 of them as the Lions earned the 10-0 win in five innings. Trenkle also scored two runs in the victory.
“It’s definitely one of the rarest things in baseball. It’s cool when you get it, and everyone was excited for me because it’s never happened at our school before,” Trenkle said. “It’s the first in history and hopefully not the last.”
Trenkle continued, “There were some good defensive plays all around. Josiah Heller made one of the greatest plays I’ve seen this year. He snagged a ball down the line that I thought, for sure, was going to fall. That was pretty cool to see.”
