St. Joseph High School held a ceremony for three student-athletes who signed their National Letters of Intent Wednesday afternoon inside the SJHS library.

Gabe Penner will be continuing his soccer career in San Luis Obispo for Steve Sampson’s Cal Poly Mustangs.

“I’ve worked really hard to accomplish that dream, and I’m just very excited to attend that school, the school that I’ve dreamt of attending my entire life,” Penner said.

Alexis Mitchell signed to continue her career on the course with the Westmont College women’s golf team in Santa Barbara.

“I just want to enjoy the sport,” Mitchell said. “It’s a hobby of mine and I never expected to play at the next level, but I’m really excited to have that opportunity.”

Two-sport standout Elijah Brinez will be heading to Kansas and MidAmerican Nazarene University to play both football and basketball for the Pioneers.

“They are a very competitive school. They definitely know what they’re doing, the coaching staffs are excellent on both sides of basketball and football,” Brinez said. “I feel like there’s a bright future for the next generation coming in.”
