Cal Poly honored its top swimmers and divers with a new tribute. The university unveiled recognition boards for its all-American athletes Saturday afternoon. The displays highlight both the women's and men's programs.
The special event was held a year after Cal Poly's Swim and Dive program was cut by the university due to budget constraints. Despite fundraising efforts to save it, organizers fell short by the university-imposed deadline.
Campus officials say the Swim and Dive program was first established in 1907. However, the elite athletes never had a way to be permanently recognized until now.
