Arly Lara joined the KSBY News team as a multimedia journalist covering northern Santa Barbara County in late June 2026.
She graduated from UC Santa Barbara in June 2026 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and a double minor in Journalism and Spanish.
During her time at UC Santa Barbara, Arly spent two years as a general assignment reporter for UCSB TV and one year as news director. She covered a wide range of stories, including protests, community events, concerts, and the annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. There, she interviewed celebrities such as Zoe Saldaña, Teyana Taylor, Wunmi Mosaku, Jacob Elordi, and Kevin Costner. She also covered the inaugural Santa Barbara Literary Festival.
While she enjoys red carpet coverage, Arly is most passionate about telling community stories. She loves attending local events, meeting people, and sharing the experiences that matter most to them. She believes the strongest stories come from building genuine connections within the community. Her favorite beats include community events, healthcare, agriculture, and immigration.
